Bilingual vs. Dual Language: A Parent Reflection + Resources

Hola Hola,

I hope you had a wonderful first full week of the New Year. Mine looked a little different... I spent most of it in bed after coming down with a nasty cold. If you were wondering where my usual Monday IG video went, that’s why. I’m okay now, but the week reminded me how important it is to set boundaries and simply say, “Me tengo que cuidar.”

By Sunday, I was feeling much better and made my way to a dear amiga’s home to celebrate Día de Reyes, complete with a Rosca brought straight from Mexico. She gifted me two beautiful things: handmade tortillas and a painting on bark from Mexico...both so meaningful.

As I chatted with guests, I connected with a Latina mom and we started talking about our daughters. She shared that she’s currently trying to learn more about grants and scholarships. Long story short, I mentioned a contact who could help her and it struck me how often parents don’t realize what resources exist simply because no one ever tells us.

There’s so much we don’t know (even when it comes to bilingual education and what’s available to our children) which is why I’m excited to share this week’s episode in hopes of educating and empowering you in your bilingual parenting journey.

Check it out...

In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Dr. Villaroel, a dual language specialist and immigrant mother, who helps bring clarity to what bilingual education actually looks like for families.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

The difference between bilingual programs and dual language programs and why it matters

Why your child’s home language is an asset, not a disadvantage.

Simple ways to support bilingualism at home, even if you don’t feel fluent.
