When They Say “Speak English”: Why I’m Still Raising My Child Bilingual

Hola Hola,
Toy Fair.  Workshop Backlash. Save Your Spot.
Let’s talk 💛

First, I hope you're doing well :) and had a lovely Valentine's Day.  I spent my Valentine's Day weekend at Toy Fair NYC where I met up with 2 amazing Latina moms, Monica Encarnacion of NYC Tech Mommy and Iveth R of For The Love To Blog, where we were looking for the latest in Toys, exploring the latest toys, especially Spanish, cultural, and learning-focused ones.

(pictured below)

Overall it was lots of fun with great finds, but when it come to Spanish learning, the message is very clear...there is very little available.  Of course, nothing is impossible and I did find a handful of items that I will be sharing with you.  Remember, we can never lose hope in raising our bilinguals.

Speaking of hope.  I'll be honest with you, some days it feels like our hope gets chipped away at little by little.  I'll be transparent with you, I ran some test ads to get my workshop promoted and then I see this comment:

"Get this monkey out of my country, speak English!"

My heart sank.
I deleted the comment.
I stopped the ads.

I didn't stop them because I don't believe in my workshop or my capacity to help people.  I stopped them because I'm tired.

Tired of the hate.
Tired of the ignorance.
Tired of the hurt.

But here’s what I know: El futuro de nuestros hijos vale la pena, and voices that don’t belong in their lives have no power here because:

  • Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world, and your child deserves to be part of that global conversation.

  • About 45 Million people in the U.S. speak Spanish, which means giving your child this skill opens doors to family connection, community, and belonging.

  • Bilingual children gain cognitive and problem-solving advantages, helping them build confidence and independence from an early age.

  • Bilingualism can lead to higher earning potential, giving your child more financial opportunities in the future.

  • Language discrimination is real, but teaching your child Spanish is an act of love and empowerment—showing them their culture matters.

  • Most of the world grows up speaking multiple languages—why shouldn’t your child have that advantage?
Raising bilingual children today isn’t just about speaking two languages. It’s about giving them confidence, pride in their heritage, and a future full of possibility.

If you want a bit more help on how to better achieve this in 2026 I invite you to my workshop...

You’ll discover:

Why kids often understand Spanish but don’t speak it

  • The most common roadblocks to Spanish at home—and how to fix them
  • How to create a safe, confident Spanish environment
  • How to build a flexible Family Language Plan that actually works
  • 🎁 Bonus: PDF guide + entry into a Spanish-learning giveaway

…Let’s take this step together porque cada palabra cuenta, every conversation, every little effort counts.

Even if you can’t attend, share this workshop or email with a friend who would love to join, there’s no stronger “ad” than a referral.

And for the record… I’m not a monkey. I’m a horse according to the Chinese zodiac and this is my country too.  🐴💛 ;)

Muchas bendiciones para ti y tu familia...

Con mucho cariño,
