Hola, Hola,
Tax Season. Dinero. Generational Beliefs.
Let’s talk 💛
Spring is FINALLY here and with that, so is tax season.
For many people, tax season means getting some extra money back to:
- go on vacation
- make arreglos around the house
- or send an extra payment to a credit card
For us… it meant having to pay back taxes.
Long story 😅 but in a nutshell, for the past 6 years it’s meant getting nothing back… until this year.
Yes, we are jumping for joy.
But I can also tell you this experience made me reflect a lot on myself and my beliefs around dinero.

Where Fear Around Money Begins
Because to tell you the truth…
In the past, I’ve used my lack of knowledge as a crutch (or maybe an excuse).
...that turned into MIEDO...fear.
And when I really began to process this…
I realized it’s an inherited belief.
I remember when my papi was alive and I asked him about investing.
He said something like:
“Yo no quiero saber nada de eso porque yo perdí mucho dinero.”
He lost money… and became afraid.
He never invested again.

The Beliefs We Inherit
And the thing is… my dad came a long way.
From growing up in poverty in el campo
To building a life for his family.
That matters.
That’s part of our story.
But even with that growth…
Some of those fears still get passed down.

What We Pass Down to Our Kids
That fear didn’t stop me from investing,
Because I chose to educate myself.
But money fears have stopped me in other ways.
And that’s when it really hit me.
What we believe about dinero doesn’t stay with us.
We pass it down.
That’s something Lucy King and I talked about in this week’s podcast.
How our kids aren’t just listening to what we say about money…
- they’re watching how we handle it
- how we feel about it
- what we avoid

Why This Matters to Me as a Mom
And as a mom…
That made me pause.
Because fear is not something I want to pass down to mija.
I’ve grown just like my father grew.
But I still have A LOT of work to do.
And maybe you feel that too.
If this is something you’ve been thinking about…

Final Thoughts
We’re not just raising our kids.
We’re shaping what they carry with them.
