Start 2026 with Consistency: Bilingual Parenting Tips & Book Picks

I hope you had a lovely New Year and are looking forward to 2026...not the loud New Year, new everything kind, but the softer kind. The one where we ease in, reflect, and decide what truly deserves our energy and attention.

For me, that clarity came during a session in a business coaching group I’m part of on New Year’s Eve. One member shared that she felt SO behind even before the year had even really begun.

As she spoke, it became clear she wasn’t alone. Many of us nodded along, recognizing that familiar pressure: being career women, showing up for our kids, familias, managing schedules, homework, activities, home, meals, and somehow feeling like we should already be doing more.

That moment was a reminder...

starting slow isn’t falling behind.

It’s choosing intention over urgency, especially as moms carrying a lot of invisible weight.

It also reminded me why community matters so much. Having others to share the journey with, celebrate wins, and support one another, whether it’s a mom group, a business group, or a bilingual parenting community like our Mi Legasi course community, it definitely makes it easier to consistently show up.

Which brings me to last week’s Día de Reyes giveaway.

It was such a beautiful reminder of why this community exists, to celebrate familia, language, and cultura together. I loved seeing hundreds of you open my email and participate.

BILINGUAL PARENTING TIP FOR JANUARY: CONSISTENCY OVER INTENSITY

One of the biggest myths I see every January in raising bilingües is that we need to do more, more routines, more structure, more learning. In reality, research shows that small, consistent actions are far more effective than short bursts of intensity.

A simple way to practice this in bilingual parenting is through reading:

  • Pick one book for the week.
  • Let your child know what book you will be reading and when.  (They will help hold you accountable!)
  • Read it once a day, even if it’s just a few pages.
Repetition helps children build comprehension, confidence, and vocabulary and makes bilingual reading feel familiar instead of forced. Focusing on consistency over quantity is the key to building lasting habits that stick.
