In Uncertain Times, Be the Safe Place: A Latina Mom's Bilingual Parenting Reflection

Hola Hola,

World Uncertainty.  Changes at Home.  Books that Support.

Let’s talk 💛

How are you doing? De veras.

There’s a lot happening right now. A lot of uncertainty. And with that can come fear, frustration, anger… even helplessness.

You want to do something.
Pero qué?

If you’re anything like me, your number one priority is simple:
Keep your children safe.

I see you. I’m with you. You’re not alone.

But here’s something gentle to remember:

You are already doing more than you think.

Every “Hija, te quiero.”
Every “Mijo, estoy aquí para escucharte.”
Every “Vamos a jugar.”
Every song you turn on.
Every hug.

Showing up in English, Spanish, or Spanglish tells our children:

Even when the world feels uncertain…
we are their safe place.

And that matters more than we realize.

How are you doing? De veras.

Speaking of our kids…

Our journeys aren’t always linear. Sometimes the path we carefully planned takes a detour we didn’t see coming.

In the moment, that detour can feel frustrating.

But sometimes… it leads to discovery.

That’s where we are in our home right now,  navigating foreseeable yet still unexpected changes related to my daughter’s education, language learning, and extracurriculars.

As someone who thrives on systems and predictability (hello organization lovers 🙋🏽♀️), change isn’t always comfortable or easy.

But I keep reminding myself:

Step by step.
One day at a time.
Sometimes that is enough.

And during seasons like this, we all look for reassurance, from friends, from mentors, and from the things we listen to and read.

So today, I want to share a few books that help children process big emotions… and one bonus for you.

El Monstruo de Colores(also available in English as The Color Monster) is a beautiful pop-up book that brings emotions to life and helps children visually identify what they’re feeling in a simple, accessible way.

The Feelings Book, el Libro de Los Sentimientosgives us a gentle reminder that all feelings are valid. The illustrations are relatable for young kids, and the message encourages open communication, a must especially during these times.

Hola Emotions! is a bilingual workbook that explores feelings in an interactive way. Great for slightly older children who enjoy writing, drawing, and reflecting.

When God Winks at You.  This one is for you. My daughter gifted it to me. It’s a beautiful reminder that what feels like coincidence may sometimes carry deeper meaning, especially during seasons of change.
And speaking of growth and reassurance…

If you have a little one between 0–3 years old, I have something special coming this Friday 💛

It’s designed to bring clarity (not pressure) to those early bilingual milestones, because in uncertain times, having helpful knowledge can feel incredibly grounding.

More on that very soon.

For now, breathe.
Love on your babies.
Y recuerda, you are already building safety in your home.

Bendiciones.
